Exilio de Dentro

On April 1, 1939, the Spanish Civil War ended: the Nationalists had won over the Republicans. But, if peace is what proclaims the end of a war, then the civil war in Spain could have been said to continue for many more years to come. Persecutions, executions, exiles dragged on endlessly. Even today, the past is being reopened and questioned. The sons of the new Spain, born after Franco’s death, are starting to dig. Mass graves are being excavated, silences are being broken and, with infinite patience, the grandchildren of Spain are fixing—piece by piece—their grandparents' memories.

This tree is one of the many mass graves in Spain that has not been reopened yet. Here lies the body of Amaro Viera Amores, the socialist mayor of Valencia de Alcantara. His daughter lived for 70 years just 24 km from this shared grave. She came with me, for the first time, to see this tree.

Each print will come with its own "story" printed on museum archive quality paper.

For more info about our printing process, please read about our partnership with the legendary photo lab Picto.

    What is the edition size?

The edition is not limited based on quantity but based on time. Each sale will present a unique selection of photographs and formats that will only be available for the duration of the sale. The limited time is part of what make our prints special.
