      Who we are

      behindthefra.me is a new platform designed to connect photography-lovers (most of us with a smartphone today!) with the work of true photographic talents. We want to make highly curated, museum-quality photographs available to a global audience at both an affordable price and in just a few clicks.

      What makes behindthefra.me special?

      Our limited-edition prints are museum-quality, printed with archival pigment inks on top-quality paper. Each print includes a full story "behind the frame." We work closely with all our artists to ensure that each and every print is presented according to their intentions.

      Something we're especially proud of: Artists get paid for every single print we sell—supporting both them and our goal to help every one of them pursue their creative and artistic passions.

      What are the themed sales?

      At behindthefra.me, we want to connect photography-lovers with great images—but we also believe images should come in a context, with a sense of meaning.

      Meaning is conveyed both within the frame itself, thanks to the photographers’ visual sensitivity but also behind the frame, thanks to the photographers’ ability to convey great stories.

      This is the basis of one of our founding mottos at behindthefra.me: People want stories, not just pictures. Pictures these days are everywhere and anywhere, in such overwhelming quantities as to boggle the mind. But a powerfully captured, visually distinctive moment, alongside a personal story? That is still a rarer discovery.

      Beyond the narratives contained in each individual picture, we also believe it’s important to create a context across our hand-picked selections. We want to offer a sense of unity to the work produced by our diverse, globe-spanning photographers. To that end, each of our sales is defined by a theme that helps give a meaning to the collection of images chosen.

      Furthermore, our themed sales will always be limited in time. Although we want to make great photographs widely accessible, we also believe there is something special about limited editions. We want our artists’ work to feel precious and finite, not disposable. It is the overwhelming mass of images today that cheapens the power of individual photographs. That is why behindthefra.me will always revolve around limited edition, themed sales.

      Our Artists

      Behindthefra.me is proud to represent artists we truly believe in. Each of the photographers chosen was hand-selected by our curatorial team for their unique aesthetic vision and storytelling abilities. Our photographers are highly decorated journalists, storytellers, filmmakers, artists and much, much more. You can meet them all more personally through our Magazine, where we regularly run features and interviews on these creative and fascinating individuals.

      We do not have a physical store and it is not in our philosophy to have one.       What happens after I place my order?

      After your order is placed, you will receive a confirmation email. Please be sure to check your spam folder if you don’t see an order confirmation in your inbox. Shipping time will vary order-to-order. We will do our best to ship your order to you as fast as we can.

      How do I cancel an order?

      If you have received your order confirmation email, we will not be able to cancel your order. If you haven't received it, please email us at team@behindthefra.me as soon as possible.

      I am having difficulties placing my order. What can I do?

      Please email us at team@behindthefra.me and we will do our best to assist you in your ordering.

      I have placed an order and would like to change the content of the order.

      Unfortunately we cannot change the content of an order. We can only cancel orders and issue new ones. But we won't be able to cancel an order that has already been confirmed. Please read "How do I cancel my order?"

      Available Sizes

      We are currently offering photographs in 3 different sizes: 40x30cm, 50x40cm, 80x60cm.

      Each photograph's size has been decided in collaboration with the photographer to make sure the final piece conveys the optimal experience.

      Some items are not printed in the biggest size because we have judged the photograph is not well-suited for this particular size.

      What do the sizes mean?

      Sizes listed indicate the size of the paper in centimeters, not the size of the image. Most of our editions are printed with a margin.

      Margin sizes vary depending on the proportions of the image, and margins will change with differently sized images. Our prints have a minimum margin of 1 cm in order to present the work according to our artist's intent. Margins for our largest images may be as much as 10 cm.  Having a margin protects the image from damage and allows for easier framing and mounting.       Will my photographs look exactly as they do online?

      The color of your print may differ from the color reproduction of any given computer screen as all computers are calibrated differently. Computers are also lit from behind, which can affect the level of brightness of an image.

      What does "museum quality" mean?

      All prints are produced on Baryta Hahnemühle 315g (on Epson Pigment Inkjet). All prints have been approved by the photographer. We work closely with them to make sure that all editions reflect their intentions.

      What is the edition size?

      The edition is not limited based on quantity but limited based on time. Each sale will present a unique selection of photographs and formats that will only be available for the time of the sale.

      Will everything on the site always be available?

      No, that's part of the excitement! Our site runs on limited time, themed sale. This means the artworks on our platform are limited in time, and thus limited edition. Once a print is no longer on sale, it's gone for good. Our limited quantities are part of what make our prints so special, but unfortunately that means you may miss out on an edition if you don't act fast. Don't miss out by keeping up with the latest news and sales via our Magazine and social media channels.

      Can the photographer add a personalized note to the print? How about a signature?

      Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate this sort of request right now but please send us an email with your request and we will relay it to the photographer.

      Size Chart

      We are currently offering photographs in 3 different sizes: 40x30cm, 50x40cm, 80x60cm.

      Each photograph's size has been decided in collaboration with the photographer to make sure the final piece conveys the optimal experience.

      Classic size photographs (40x30 cm and 50x40 cm) are framed with Nielsen wooden frames in 3 different colors—Black, Natural Wood or White.

      Large size photographs (80x60cm) are mounted on a 1 mm aluminium plate and framed with made to measure wooden floater frames in the same three colors.

      Adopted by all the art galleries and major museums, the floater frame will enhance your images by giving the impression that the photo floats unattached to its frame.

      Returns, Exchanges & Refunds

      How do I exchange the product I ordered?

      In the event of an exchange please contact behindthefra.me by email at support@behindthefra.me for a Return Authorization Number. Once the return is approved please repackage and send the merchandise with a copy of your order email to:

      Exchanges will be treated as a return and shipping will be charged to send any requested items.

      How do I return the products that I ordered?

      Our policy is applicable for 14 days after order is received. If more than 14 days have gone by since receipt, unfortunately we can’t offer you refunds or exchanges.

      To be eligible for return, your item must be unused, undamaged and in the same condition that you received it. It must also be in the original packaging.

      If you are unhappy with your purchase you may return it in it’s original condition for a refund. Shipping cost will not be refunded.

      In addition to insuring your return, we strongly recommend that the order be sent with Delivery Confirmation. Should we not receive your return, we will not be able to issue a refund.

      Refunds on returns will be issued on the price of the merchandise and any sales tax, if applicable. If the purchase is made in a currency other than Euros, a refund will be based on the daily rate of the date of purchase.

      Items that are returned to our warehouse as non-deliverable by USPS or UPS, or returned after 3 delivery attempts will be treated as a return. Shipping will be charged again upon the request of an order reshipment.

      To complete your return, we require a receipt or proof of purchase.

      What is the refund policy?

      If you return a product to us, you will be the exporter from the destination country. Title and risk of loss transfer to us upon our receipt of the merchandise. We can not assist you in recovering any taxes and duties incurred. Shipping carriers may assist you for a fee. Please contact shipping carriers directly to initiate this service.

      Do you ship to my country?

      We ship to every country in the world! That being said, shipping costs will vary depending on where you want the photograph to be shipped.

      The best way to check the price is to go through the purchase process until the end. Right before the final payment step, you'll find the exact shipping costs.

      How do I change my shipping address?

      If you order hasn't been sent yet, please email us at team@behindthefra.me. We can only change the shipping address if the items have not been shipped yet.

      How is my order packaged?

      All orders are packaged with the highest precaution in order not to damage any of your merchandise.
      In case you see any damage to the order you have received, please refer to the Returns, Exchanges & Refunds.

      How long will it take for my order to be processed?

      Printing
      Fine Art Pigment Inkjet print—1 to 2 days

      Finish
      Standard: simple mounting, adhesive backing, protection, simple frame—2 to 4 days
      Floater Frame (only for large size)—5 to 6 days

      Delivery        
      Standard shipping for unframed photographs—2 to 5 days
      Colissimo/Fedex—2 to 3 days
      France Express National—1 to 2 days
      France Express Europe—2 to 5 days

      An email will be sent with the tracking number after shipping.

      The time of production can vary depending on:

      • Volume of your order
      • Amount of work needed
      • Frequency of printing sessions on certain media
      • Need for finish
      • Pick up or shipping method

      I can’t find a shipping rate. What do I do?

      The best way to check the price is to go through the purchase process until the end. Right before the final payment step, you'll find the exact shipping costs. Shipping is calculated on basis of the number of products and the weight.

      Which shipping methods do you offer in the US?

      In the US and Canada, we work exclusively with FedEx.

      Which shipping methods do you offer to countries outside of the US?

      For countries outside of the US, we use Chronopost and Colissimo. These two are the leaders for all shipping departing from France, where our European lab is located.


      Payment

      Can I pay with Paypal?

      Yes, we allow payment through Paypal.

      What other payment methods do you accept?

      We also accept major credit cards: Visa, Mastercard and American Express.


      Order Complaints

      I have received the wrong item.

      We apologize for the mix-up! Please email us at team@behindthefra.me with a photo of the incorrect item that was sent to you, as well as your order number and we'll get you the correct frame as soon as we can, free of charge.

      I think my package is lost.

      Check the tracking number emailed to you on your email confirmation and let us know at team@behindthefra.me

      My order arrived damaged. What do I do?

      We're also sorry to hear that! If a product arrives damaged, you must keep all original packaging material for insurance purposes. Claims must be made within 7 days of receipt via email to team@behindthefra.me. Send us a description of the damage, and please include photos of the damaged areas, if possible. Once we have received your claim, we will send a new version of the damaged product, completely free of charge.

      My order arrived incomplete. What do I do?

      We're very sorry to hear that! If you contact us at team@behindthefra.me and let us know which item was not received, we'll get it sorted out right away.

      My order was sent back before I could receive it. What do I do?

      Contact us at team@behindthefra.me and let us know why it was sent back. If your package was unclaimed or the address you provided was incorrect, a re-shipment fee may apply.


      Customs

      Do I have to pay a customs fee on orders?

      No customs fee should apply. We have organized our production between the USA and Europe specifically in order for you to avoid paying for customs (and to speed up the shipping process!). In case you are hit with a fee, please send us a copy of the custom invoice with the reference of your order and we'll reimburse you for those charges.

      Can you ship my order as a gift?

      Unfortunately, we are not currently offering this sort of service. Nevertheless, we can send your order without an invoice in it. Please contact us at team@behindthefra.me before your order is placed so we can plan accordingly.
