This summer, as the idea of behindthefra.me slowly began shifting into an exciting reality, dozens of hand-picked artists began sending in their work for our consideration.
As hundreds of beautiful, arresting images began to come in, we were confronted with a welcome problem—how to decide what to sell?
From the beginning, we knew that individual themes would be essential to uniting our photographers’ diverse imagery and giving a context for each sale. And we knew that our sales would be limited in time. Still, each of the themes we considered seemed oddly specific for an inaugural sale.
As we began hearing the full stories behind the photographs we had chosen—as well as the fascinating biographies of the photographers who made them—a thread emerged. After all, when you first begin working with someone, where do you start the relationship? At the beginning.
Where are you from, how did you get started, what motivated you to take on this latest challenge—all questions that are worth asking, and worth answering, when you decide to undertake a new project or start a new chapter of your life. Our theme, “Always a Beginner” is motivated by the idea of looking back to look forward, recognizing, with great humbleness, that we are all beginners, in some way, with each new day.
So, dive in and explore both the beginnings of behindthefra.me, and moments of beginning for each of our photographers. In the weeks to come, we will also be recounting further stories of beginning from our hand-picked artists, so keep an eye on our magazine and newsletter for more.
Thanks so much and looking forward to this bold new beginning!
